The United Nations estimates that over two billion people lack access to safe drinking water, with many more facing scarcity at various levels. Rapid population growth, urbanization, industrialization, and climate change exacerbate this crisis. Regions once considered water-rich are now experiencing severe shortages, while arid areas face even greater challenges. 

The scarcity of drinking water directly impacts public health. Contaminated water sources spread diseases like cholera, dysentery, and typhoid, leading to millions of deaths annually, predominantly among children.
